Breaking into the Domaining and Web Development Industry
If you are a Web Designer or Web Developer then you most likely have asked yourself…” Where is the work? How can I utilize my skills for a living?” The first answer that comes to your mind is “new businesses”. I am sorry to tell you but your answer is wrong, you will not succeed or gain new clients with a marketing goal targeted to new businesses. You have heard that you must find or achieve a niche when marketing a business or product right? Well…the same rules apply here; When Vessio, LLC (http://www.vessio.com) was birthed in 2006 as ePoint Advanced I am ashamed to admit that my marketing strategy was so off that I am surprised we did not fail as a business. The more research I dug from the bottomless pits of our saturated industry the clearer the solution came to me and we have since tripled our client base and bottom line.
Let me explain…
Web Designers and Developers work on web projects for a living, so it seems only natural to find the source of business from the start and hopefully bid and when the job over “the other guy”. Well, that is not the case, hear me out and try this method. Sell Web Design and Development services to other industry specialist. Sounds strange eh…? Why should you sell your services to other Developers and Domainers? The answer is so simple; these other industry specialist such as Domainers and Web Developers already have the projects and established capital, marketing plan, and usually concept for there development and you better believe they need your assistance. This is not going to be the place to bid on a project and make $4,000.00 per job but instead is the place for you to reply for their plea for help and offer “assistance” at a reasonable business to business rate. After all they are asking for help right?
So, where do you find these places or better said “hangouts for other Domainers and Web Developers”?
Your first thought is probably SitePoint or NamePros and while they are excellent establishments and offer a huge community of diverse web professionals. I feel that jumping into an existing community to solidify your brand or services is plain and simple worthless! Entertain my method and find a new Domain Name and Web Design community that you feel will be a success and begin there. Plaster your identity on this forum website and work the “needed” and “for hire” sections until your fingers are numb. Write helpful articles and utilize your signature to notify other members that you are making yourself available for Development assistance with sufficient contact information. Always stay professional and use correct grammar, (remember every key stroke represents your business). Now you are attaching your brand and services to a new website and will benefit tremendously by simply piggy-backing someone else’s web promotion rollercoaster. A good rule of thumb is to seek out and become active by posting topics and articles to new communities that are funded or backed by a company to ensure marketing success. A perfect example of a website that is backed by a company (your truly Vessio, LLC ) which will be exposed to millions as time goes on is DomainingSource (http://www/domainingsource.com), this will be an excellent location to gain your initial exposure as we can almost guarantee you site growth.
